
Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Highway 29 in Central Wisconsin
WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – A man was seen laying on the road, claimed he had a firearm when police arrived and ran before he was hit.
A 30-year-old male was fatally struck by a vehicle on State Highway 29 near 72nd Avenue in Wausau on Monday, June 23, 2025, at approximately 11:26 p.m.
The Wausau Police Department responded to a report of a person lying in the westbound lane of State Highway 29. When officers arrived, the man claimed he had a firearm and began running from police. He ran westbound before crossing into the eastbound lanes, where he was struck by a vehicle.
Two people who occupied the vehicle that struck the individual sustained minor injuries but did not require medical transport. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wausau Police began administering first aid immediately following the incident. Wausau Fire/EMS arrived shortly thereafter to assist.
The road was closed for approximately five hours while the scene was processed.
