RIPON, Wis. (WRPN) – Finding a duck hunter in a canoe stuck in the marsh off Grand River Road in Green Lake’s town of Marquette required a team effort Thursday.
The hunter had called the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office saying he was dry and uninjured but was unable to get out of the marsh. The Sheriff’s Office responded with a drone and UTV. Kingston, Dalton, Marquette, and Markesan Fire Departments, Southern Green Lake County EMS and Markesan Emergency Management participated in the search and rescue as well.
A Hovercraft was launched, but it was unable to get to the hunter. Two people from Marquette Fire went out in their UTV and they were unable to get to the person. The Sheriff’s Department drone was instrumental in guiding the search. A tracked Argo was finally able to navigate through cat tails and other thick vegetation, and pockets of open water in the Marsh to get to the hunter. They got stuck at times.
When they got the hunter back safely to shore, they were very wet but safe. He was checked out by EMS.
