OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)— Hundreds of elementary and middle school students from across the state will be in Oshkosh on Sunday (November 23, 2025) as Wave Robotics, Oshkosh’s advanced robotics program for high school students, hosts the Oshkosh FIRST® LEGO® League Regional tournament.
Students will share their projects and compete in Robot Game matches. Wave Robotics students will also lead workshop tours and robot demonstrations. The tournament and demonstrations will be held at Oshkosh North High School (Frank Schade Fieldhouse), and the event is free and open to the public.
Celebrating the FIRST Unearthed Season
Throughout the FIRST® Unearthed™ season, participating FLL Explore Teams (grades 2-4) and FLL Challenge Teams (grades 4-8) have embraced the world of archaeology. Teams have been digging into history, exploring the challenges archaeologists face, and developing innovative solutions to real-world problems. This event is the culmination of months of hard work, research, and design by these young innovators.
Event Highlights
The event features two divisions:
- FLL Explore (Grades 2-4): At this end-of-the-year Explore Expo, teams will share their projects and models publicly for part of the event, followed by presentations to their peers, families, and friends.
- FLL Challenge (Grades 4-8): The Challenge Tournament will feature teams from across the state as they present their Innovation Projects to judges and compete in thrilling Robot Game matches. Top-performing teams will have the opportunity to advance to the Wisconsin FLL Sectional Tournament in Mukwonago on Saturday, December 13.

Robotics Programs in Oshkosh
The Oshkosh Recreation Department, a division of the Oshkosh Area School District, offers three levels of robotics programs:
- FIRST LEGO League Explore (Grades 2-4): An introductory program for teams of up to six students, using LEGO SPIKE Essential robotic kits to build a model and showcase their creation
- FIRST LEGO League Challenge (Grades 4-8): Teams of up to 10 students program a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot to compete in the season’s robot game in addition to researching, identifying, and solving a real-world problem for their innovation project.
- FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) (Grades 9-12): Advanced robotics program for area high school students. Teams design, program, and build industrial-sized robots to play an action-packed game on a themed field as part of a three-team alliance.
