WAUTOMA, Wis (WAUH)- Sheriff’s officials in Waupaca County say a deputy wasn’t injured when his patrol vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle while he was stopped to provide traffic control on a traffic crash.

It happened at 5:46 Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 10 westbound east of Old 49 Road in the Town of Fremont. The patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were activated at the time. A westbound SUV traveling at a high rate of speed struck the back of the patrol vehicle.
The deputy was in the patrol vehicle and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. He was taken to Theda Care Medical Center of Waupaca, where he was treated and released. The driver of the SUV was evaluated by personnel at the scene and declined medical attention.
Weyauwega Police are investigating the crash. The driver was cited for operating without a valid driver license, unreasonable and imprudent speed, failure to maintain control of vehicle, failure to change lanes when passing a stopped emergency vehicle and failure to have insurance.
