RIPON, Wis (WRPN)-The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning from Midnight tonight to 1 pm Friday. That’s in addition to the Extreme Cold Watch that remains in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 34 below to 42 below zero are expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero are possible. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Precautionary measures should include dressing in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Other suggestions include checking tire pressure, antifreeze levels, and the heater and defroster in your vehicle. It is also recommended to stay inside whenever possible and check on your neighbors and elderly family members.
Some cities are also requiring residents to run tap water continuously to prevent pipes from freezing.
