RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials say a dehumidifier in a basement at N9577 Van Dyne Road caught fire Friday night filling the home in the Town of Friendship with smoke.
A neighbor got a call from the home’s owner who had checked his security cameras and saw smoke inside his residence. The neighbor called 911 went to the residence, confirmed hearing smoke alarms, seeing smoke, and opened a door to remove dogs from the home.
Van Dyne and North Fond du Lac Fire Departments responded to the scene. They found smoke inside the residence. The dehumidifier had melted down to its coils. There was no fire extension from the appliance.
The basement had soot and minor smoke damage. The main living area also had minor smoke damage. The property owner, Brandon Huffman, was not home during the fire.
The fire is believed to have been a result of the faulty dehumidifier. The fire is not considered suspicious. No person or animals were injured.
