RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- Fond du Lac Police saved the life of a 51-year-woman who was being stabbed by her 24-year-old son.
Officers responded to a 911 welfare check in the Harrison Place neighborhood Saturday night. They were informed a person inside an apartment was armed with a knife and may have already stabbed a person.
Screams for help were heard and officers forced entry into the apartment. They located the suspect and took him into custody. They then turned their attention to the victim who suffered severe injuries.
Officers applied tourniquets and worked to control bleeding until paramedics arrived. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue transported her to a local hospital, where she was taken into surgery for treatment of critical injuries. The suspect was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail.
Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says, “The action of the responding officers, hearing those calls for help, forcing entry into a dangerous and uncertain environment, stopping the violence, and providing critical medical care reflect an unwavering commitment to protecting life and serving this community when it matters most.”
